Cleveland and Northeast Ohio will see unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend and upcoming week, with highs climbing into the 50s and near 60 degrees by Wednesday.

A big thaw for Northeast Ohio began Friday, with temperatures near 40 degrees. Consecutive days of 50 degrees will be possible early in the week.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Northeast Ohio is experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 40s, continuing a warming trend that will persist throughout next week, NWS said the warming pattern will accelerate in the coming days, with temperatures climbing above or near 50 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

By Wednesday, parts of Northeast Ohio could reach near 60 degrees as a warm front lifts north of Lake Erie, bringing breezy southwest winds. This extended period of above-normal temperatures may cause remaining snow across the region to melt completely. Several rounds of light rain are expected between Wednesday and Friday as the weather pattern becomes more active. The first system will arrive Wednesday, with better precipitation coverage near Lake Erie and especially across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, NWS said. NWS also is reporting a second weather system is forecast to track from the Plains toward the Central Great Lakes Thursday night into Friday, bringing additional rainfall. The combination of thermal breakup from warm conditions, snowmelt and rain could break up ice on area rivers, potentially resulting in localized ice jams. The extended warm spell is different from typical mid-February conditions for Northeast Ohio, with temperatures remaining well above normal through at least Friday.Kaylee Remington joined cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer in 2016 and is a Trending News and Metro reporter.
