The company that bought Kunzler is moving production of its hot dogs and meats outside Lancaster County.
The Kunzler & Co. meat-processing plant in Lancaster city will be sold, and production of Kunzler brand hot dogs and meats shifted outside Lancaster County, the company’s owner said Monday.Union officials representing 170 Kunzler maintenance and production workers said the shift will result in the loss of at least 60 jobs and fear more jobs will be lost when private-label contracts expire.
“We are looking to find a buyer as quickly as possible,” Clemens wrote in its statement. “We have several parties interested in the acquisition that are attracted to our production and workforce capabilities and capacities. Clemens Food Group looks forward to collaborating with the union to continue to stress the importance of quality production and service, which is the focus of Clemens Food Group and any potential buyer.
Clemens said the decision to shift production and sell the city plant came “after a thorough evaluation of the Kunzler operations” and what similar operations were within Clemens. “Local 152 sincerely hopes the Clemens family will value the livelihood of working families in Lancaster over corporate profits,” Ross said.
