Scott Speedman looking out at something from the beach in RJ Decker
ABC's latest crime series, described as a quirky, neon-lit procedural, is currently four episodes in, and fans already can't wait for a Season 2 renewal. The character-driven show is exactly what High Potential fans need, as it taps into the same appeal that made the Kaitlin Olson-led favorite a breakout hit.
Titled R.J. Decker, the show premiered on March 3, 2026, to generally favorable reviews. While it's only been a few weeks since the premiere, a new update has surfaced, pointing to a surprising move amid Season 1. Starring Scott Speedman, R.J. Decker airs in the Tuesday 10 PM slot behind High Potential on ABC. However, per recent reports, the light crime drama will slide into High Potential's Tuesday 9 PM slot once the two-season drama wraps on April 7, 2026. The move is very similar to The Rookie's shift from 10 PM to 9 PM on Tuesdays last season after it premiered its seventh season behind High Potential. Note that the Nathan Fillion series relocated to Mondays earlier this year to make room for R.J. Decker. After a solid launch with 3.69 million Live+Same day viewers, R.J. Decker became ABC's most-watched 10 PM drama debut in over five years and has appeared regularly on Hulu's Daily Top 5. While it's not a breakout hit on the scale of High Potential, things look promising for renewal at present, even though it's just over three weeks into the show's run. Meanwhile, as fans count down to R.J. Decker's 9 PM debut on April 14, 2026, ABC will re-broadcast the show's first three episodes back-to-back on April 9, 2026. That's a good sign for the new dramedy, as it shows the network's commitment and gives it extra exposure while the series is evaluated for renewal. Written by Rob Doherty, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer, R.J. Decker stars Speedman as the title character, a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the crime-filled world of South Florida. Jaina Lee Ortiz, Bevin Bru, Kevin Rankin, and Adelaide Clemens also star. The show is inspired by Carl Hiaasen's novel Double Whammy and produced by 20th Television.
