Aaron Taylor-Johnson recently starred in 28 Years Later.

Robert Eggers always manages to take his audience to a world that embodies fear and all things horror with his atmospheric point of view. From The Witch to Nosferatu, the fan-favorite director has shown an inimitable style and prowess for creating worlds where monsters and men coexist, and fear doesn’t have a face.

So, naturally, as he tackles the subject of men turning into monsters, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring as the titular Werewolf, the anticipation runs high. And we just got a step closer to the film. Actor Ralph Ineson, who is cast in the movie along with Egger’s frequent collaborators like Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe, took to social media to announce the wrap of Werwulf. Posting the image from the wrap party, he simply wrote, “That was fun.” While many details on the upcoming feature are scarce, a previously surfaced set video saw Johnson going full feral werewolf near the countryside. Eggers has established himself as the modern horror master, and it'll be fascinating to witness the world he has created for the iconic monster. What To Expect From ‘Werwulf’? Werwulf is set in 13th-century England, where local folklore becomes a terrifying reality for the villagers as a mysterious creature stalks a foggy countryside. The film will feature the use of Old English, just like his other project, The Witch. Eggers co-wrote the script with his The Northman scribe Sjón, so expect the writing to have plenty of surrealist elements, not only unexpected transformations or strange events, but a blurring of boundaries between humans and other creatures. Eggers previously teased that"It's a medieval werewolf movie. And it's also the darkest thing I've ever written. By far." Indeed, if Werwulf is the director’s darkest movie, one can expect it to feature all kinds of body and psychological horror, beyond the standard creature feature. The movie marks Taylor-Johnson’s second collaboration with Eggers, post Nosferatu, but this isn’t the first time he is playing a monstrous role, given Sony’s R-rated Kraven also sees him getting dark and bloodied. Nosferatu was a big hit, becoming the director’s biggest film by far and garnering four Oscar nominations. Naturally, all eyes are on the upcoming film. With talent across the board, fans should expect a simmering psychological drama with a spectacle to behold. Given Eggers’ movies are always well-crafted, it’ll be interesting to see which themes he chooses to bring to life this time around.
