The future of Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets seems uncertain. Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer reported on Sunday at Super Bowl LIX that the four-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl MVP flew to New Jersey last week to discuss his future with the team. According to Glazer, Rodgers was told the organization was moving on from him. ESPN also reported that Rodgers is unlikely to remain with the Jets for a third season this fall.
The Jets have not yet made any official announcements or commented publicly on these reports. It remains unclear if Rodgers will be cut or traded by the Jets. Additionally, it is unknown if the 41-year-old quarterback desires to continue his career for a 21st season with a third NFL team. Late last season, Rodgers stated that before making a decision about his future, he needed a mental break to refresh and reflect. Rodgers, who was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005, spent three years as Brett Favre's backup before becoming the starting quarterback. During his time with the Packers, he led them to victory in Super Bowl XLV and the NFC championship game four more times. Traded to the Jets in April 2023, Rodgers unfortunately suffered a season-ending ankle injury on his fourth offensive snap of the year. He returned in 2024, but the team struggled, finishing with a 5-12 record. Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
