Just about everyone in a raucous New Jersey crowd of fight fans welcomed Donald Trump to UFC 302 Saturday night, but New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a few seats away from the former president at ringside, didn't seem to share the enthusiasm.
Former President Donald Trump watches Alex Morono fight Niko Price during the third round of a welterweight bout at the UFC 302 mixed martial arts event Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Newark, N.J. Just about everyone in a raucous New Jersey crowd of fight fans welcomed Donald Trump to UFC 302 Saturday night, but New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a few seats away from the former president at ringside, didn’t seem to share the enthusiasm.
Greeted with a thunderous standing ovation as he entered, Mr. Trump shook hands and exchanged pleasantries as he made his way to his seat. But Rodgers remained seated as Mr. Trump passed.“The round of applause ’s getting right now is pretty staggering,” announcer Joe Rogan said as the billionaire took his seat.
Later in the night, the crowd erupted in a “F— Joe Biden” chant. Rodgers reacted by lowering his head and pulling the bill of his cap down. Meanwhile, the former president embraced the energy. He raised a fist to acknowledge the thousands of cheering fans who went on to chant “We love Trump.” Rodgers, who said he considered serving as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate in this year’s presidential election, has spoken out against both Mr. Trump and President Biden.
“My thing is had four years to do it and didn’t drain the swamp,” the four-time NFL MVP told Tucker Carlson last month. “And whether he just got scared because of what he learned when he was in there — I think it’s very plausible.”
