PITTSBURGH — Aaron Rodgers has finally agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $25 million to return to the Steelers next season, sources confirmed to the Post-Gazette. Rodgers will be guaranteed $22 million as part of the deal and is expected to be with the team when offseason training activities begin Monday.
The Steelers did not meet with Rodgers, who has been in town, and agreed to the deal with his agent, David Dunn, on Saturday night. The total value of the deal was never an issue between the sides. Despite the lengthy delay in announcing his return, Rodgers had always indicated to the Steelers he was thinking of returning for his 22nd season. Rodgers has been in Pittsburgh since last week but never met with the Steelers.
Instead, general manager Omar Khan talked with his agent about when the former four-time league MVP would return. The Steelers have said all along they didn’t think the delayed decision from Rodgers would drag on as long as last year, when he didn’t sign until June 5. And while the process looked as though it was headed in that direction, it came to an end Saturday night.
