Former Jets defensive back Aaron Glenn takes the helm as head coach, aiming to end the team's 14-year playoff drought. He acknowledges the challenges ahead but emphasizes the opportunity to build a successful roster.

Aaron Glenn , a former Jets defensive back, has stepped into the role of the franchise's new head coach . He addressed the media at his introductory press conference on Monday at the New York Jets ' training facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. This marked his first appearance in the position since the Jets named him as their 22nd head coach since their founding in 1959 as the New York Titans.

Glenn's appointment comes after a year concluding with a 5-12 record for the Jets, their longest active playoff drought spanning 14 years across all four major North American sports leagues. The team hasn't reached the playoffs since their AFC Championship game loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 under then head coach Rex Ryan. Glenn, who played for the Jets from 1994 to 2001, expressed his determination to end this losing streak. He began his coaching career as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and most recently served as the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator for the past four seasons before joining the Jets. As one of only five Black NFL head coaches amongst the league's 32 franchises, Glenn acknowledged the significance of his position and the challenges ahead. 'Listen, there are going to be challenges, but with challenges come opportunity,' he stated. 'Here’s what I do know. We’re the freaking New York Jets and we’re built for this ... sustained success — that’s what we’re looking for because I’ve lived it…' Glenn emphasized the importance of accountability and responsibility within the team, stating, 'To me there’s no such thing as accountability without responsibility. So it’s my job to make sure what your responsibility is. Once the players understand that, then they know they have to be accountable for that. It’s not like I’m the one to have to tell them, ‘You’re wrong.’ They’ll know it. So we set that standard up front, and the players want that.' He also addressed the presence of incumbent starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has been a controversial figure since joining the Jets in a trade with the Green Bay Packers in April 2023. 'This thing is not about Aaron Rodgers,' Glenn asserted. 'This is about the roster. And we plan on building the best roster we can.' Glenn's appointment marks a new era for the Jets, with the hope of turning around their fortunes and achieving sustained success
