The holiday season is a time for celebration and relaxation, but it can also be a dangerous time out on the roads if drunk drivers get behind the wheel.
) - The holidays are a time for celebration and relaxation, but they can also be a dangerous time out on the roads if things go too far. “There are so many bad things that can happen, from a fender bender to a DUI to a fatality,” said Clay Ingram , public relations and marketing manager of AAA Alabama .
“All of the possibilities are bad.” Ingram said the legal and potentially life-ending consequences are well-known, but it does not stop it from happening. “Everybody knows it’s dangerous and they don’t want anyone else to do it, but they think they can do it and be okay, and that’s just simply not true,” he said. According to Alabama law, part of the fines paid for certain driving under the influence cases go to the state’s general fund, along with Alabama’s Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund and Alabama’s Chemical Testing Training and Equipment Trust Fund. Ingram said it is important to plan with a designated driver or rideshare app before things get out of hand. “The time to make those plans is not after you’ve already had a couple of drinks,” said Ingram. “The time to do that is before you go out, where you can make a rational and intelligent decision.” While the state’s legal limit for a DUI is 0.08%, for people younger than 21, a blood alcohol content of just 0.02% can lead to a DUI conviction.Sister of 13-year-old shooting victim held her as she died: ‘She looked so scared’Here’s what stores are open, and which ones are closed, on Christmas
