Clay Ingram says he believes teen drivers pick up their driving habits from those closest to them.
) - Traffic safety advocates recognize this week as a time for teenagers to focus on being careful when they’re behind the wheel, making it a good time for parents to have a serious conversation with their kids about safe driving habits.
National Teen Driver Safety Week is now underway and a spokesperson for AAA Alabama believes that parents have the biggest impact on their kids’ driving habits. Clay Ingram says the state of Alabama requires a minimum of 50 hours driving practice before drivers can get their license. However, Ingram says inexperienced teen drivers probably need at least 100 hours of practice driving, if not 200 or 300 hours, to become comfortable driving.“Parents need to understand that they are the models for their kids’ driving behaviors,” Ingram said. “So if the parents are aggressive drivers, the teenagers are going to be aggressive drivers. If they’re speeders, the teens are going to be speeders. They learn their driving habits from their parents.
