There are not many people in the Jewish community in the U.S. who aren’t directly impacted by the Israel-Hamas War as well as what the Associated Press is calling the biggest attack in the country’s history when 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023 while thousands were celebrating Simchat Torah.
A year later, Israel- Hamas War memorial ceremony at Anchorage synagogue welcomes all faiths and religions| ANCHORAGE , Alaska - There aren’t many people in the United States’ Jewish community who aren’t directly impacted by the Israel- Hamas War, said Rabbi Abram Goodstein of Congregation Beth Sholom . On Monday, however, people from all faiths, religions and backgrounds were welcomed to a memorial event at Congregation Beth Sholom in Anchorage .
Rabbi Goodstein has held several events at Beth Sholom since the 2023 attack. Monday’s event was another chance – one year after the initial attacks – to reflect and heal. “If it could mean the end of bloodshed and killing, I would end the war tomorrow, 100%,” said Goodstein. at the Alaska Native Medical Center, who’s identified by many across Anchorage as a local leader of Anchorage’s Palestinian community. We have not yet received a response to requests for comment.
