FRISCO — The memory that pops into United States forward Mallory Swanson’s mind when she thinks about last year’s SheBelieves Cup game in Frisco was not one...
“It was freezing and I remember sliding right here,” Swanson said Tuesday, indicating towards the touchline at Toyota Stadium. “It was literally like a sheet of ice and I cut my leg.”
Swanson, then known as Mallory Pugh prior to her marriage to Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, entered the 2022 SheBelieves Cup at a crossroads of her career. But her form has elevated into elite territory over the past 12 months — and it all started with a great performance at the 2022 SheBelieves Cup.
She has scored two more braces since then, including a double against Canada in the SheBelieves Cup opener last Thursday in Orlando.
