Rain is going to spread across much of mainland Alaska. Watch for rises in water levels from the Brooks range to southcentral Alaska.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Some very good news regarding wildfires...officials say with recent rain and cooler temperatures, fire activity decreases across southern Alaska.
The current number of fires considered active is 163, with just one new fire reported in the last 24 hours. Six wildfires are staffed. And for the fire season so far, over 530-thousand acres have burned. The Montana creek fire with 67 percent containment reported. The Riley fire near the park, also seeing progress in containment.. The grapefruit complex fire has consumed more than 87-thousand acres. As of midday Friday, there have been modifications to the evacuations along the Elliott highway due to the Grapefruit fire complex. A ready evacuation status affects the Elliott highway from milepost 18-65..and that is all. DOT has also closed the Elliott at MP 57 due to flooding.
