Residents, major leaguers and Whoopi Goldberg celebrate reopening of 90-year-old stadium

Ortiz, 60, had played on the field for Kennedy High when the Knights claimed a state title in 1979. He couldn’t believe it had been fully restored after 26 years of being shuttered. A digital scoreboard stood near where the old wooden one once was. He noted the depths of past decades when the 90-year-old stadium that was built during the Great Depression felling disrepair. The ribbon cutting and rebirth made him emotional.
