Officials aren't sure when all lanes will reopen.

ffennema/Getty Images/iStockphotoAuthorities are calling towing companies and trying to figure out how to extract the vehicle, San Francisco Police Department Sgt. Culbert Chu told SFGATE. “It’s a unique situation we don't deal with too often,” Chu said. The eastbound lane of the tunnel is currently shut down, and it’s unclear when both lanes will be open again. It could “take a minute,” Chu said.

The roadway, which is officially named the Robert C. Levy Tunnel, funnels traffic between the Russian Hill and Chinatown areas. For now, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management is advising drivers to take alternative routes and expect delays.
