A tweet asked museums to show off their CreepiestObjects and dear God, did they deliver
People look to museums to learn more about our intricate, incredible planet. But it’s not all Mona Lisas and dinosaur fossils on display. Museums are also full of supremely bizarre, wholly disturbing pieces that have the potential to shake visitors to the core.
Last week’s call for submissions of museums’ creepiest objects struck a different chord entirely. The good people of Museum Twitter responded accordingly, with heinous images from Germany, Canada, the United States, elsewhere in the United Kingdom and beyond. Feed it a 2 pence piece and it'll pretend to drink from its cup as it stares into your soul. #CuratorBattle #CreepiestObject pic.twitter.com/ohNl2974UJ
What’s worse is that the item is not the museum’s only “mermaid.” Its other mythical sea creature was made from fish parts and God knows what else. — PEI Museum April 17, 2020 Another horrible toy. Discovered inside some cursed 155-year-old mansion, this freak of nature sheep was allegedly a play thing for children. The staff of the PEI Museum system and Heritage Foundation in Canada call it “Wheelie,” noting that not only does it look terrifying, but it also moves on its own. Why it hasn’t been cast into the sea yet is beyond us.
