Good Friday marked the 31st annual Walk for the Suffering.
to reflect on the day Jesus was crucified. It's all part of Holy Week, that leads up to His resurrection on Easter Sunday."Good Friday is the deepest part of our faith as Christians. It is the day to remember Jesus' death on the cross," Penny Bridges said, who is the Dean of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral."Good Friday would mean nothing without Easter coming behind it. Not only did Jesus die for us, but then God raised him from the dead," Pastor Bridges said.
"We come together from different traditions and walk together through our city publicly, to witness the suffering of our brothers and sisters - from mental illness to abuse in prisons, to cruel immigration laws," Pastor Bridges added."Through all of the struggles that he went through and how he was hated in society, it's important for people to see Jesus in themselves," Sebastian Molina said.
"People are hungry right here in this city and that has to weigh heavily on everyone's conscious, not just Christians," Michael Kinnamon said, who is the former General Secretary for the National Council of Churches."Find a place that speaks to you and has the same spiritual needs you're feeling," Kinnamon added.
Auxiliary Bishop Ramon Bejarano will celebrate Easter Vigil Mass Saturday night at 8 pm at St. Therese of Carmel Parish located at 4355 Del Mar Trails Rd in Del Mar Heights.Auxiliary Bishop Felipe Pulido will celebrate Easter Mass at St. Therese Parish at 10:30 am. St. Therese is located at 6400 Saint Therese Way, San Diego, 92120.
