Seguin has claimed the world record for the largest pecan — not once but twice. The story behind the record began more than 60 years ago when Edmund “Doc” Darilek started a pecan orchard, according to a report by Texas Highways magazine. In 1962, to promote Seguin as a pecan industry leader, he built the world’s largest pecan — basically, a gigantic sculpture of a pecan — which was placed in front of the Guadalupe County Courthouse .
