The Department of Agriculture on Thursday set a suggested retail price of P250 per kilo for red onions amid reports that the bulb is being sold for more that P700 a kilo in some areas. The SRP will take effect on Friday, December 30, 2022, Agriculture Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Kristine Evangelista said.
Evangelista gave assurances that the DA will implement the P250 SRP following non-compliance of retailers with the P170 SRP imposed by the department in October 2022.'We know in the past that we experienced challenges in the implementation of SRP since it was only suggested. The difference now is we already talked to the producers, and they promised to help to ensure affordable prices of onions,' Evangelista said.
