took place in Lemon Grove. Families of students at Lemon Grove Grammar School challenged a school board decision to send the children of Mexican immigrants to a separate school location, and a student named Roberto Alvarez was the lead plaintiff in the complaint against the school district.
A judge ruled in favor of the students, and a mural in an alley off Broadway explains what became known as “.” It features several illustrations, including some of the 75 students who were affected, their school and a courtroom scene where a child is testifying from the witness stand. Roberto Alvarez Jr. was a consultant on this mural, which was completed in February 2022. It was painted by artist Mario Chacón.
