COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M hired Jimbo Fisher thanks to his Florida State team winning the 2013 national title, and that trophy collecting dust in Tallahassee, Fla., has been to A&M’s detriment.

The day before A&M hosted Miami in mid-September, the Houston Chronicle examined Fisher’s flaccid culture and wrote “accountability and fear of authority both appear to be in low quantity in the Bright Football Complex.” Four Aggies have since been indefinitely suspended following an undisclosed locker room incident in Columbia, S.C., again all freshmen: receiver Chris Marshall, defensive back Denver Harris, offensive lineman PJ Williams and defensive lineman Anthony Lucas.

Still, Russell has started all nine games for the Aggies, another example of the permissive atmosphere permeating the Bright complex — one Fisher now appears to be taking measures to tighten up.
