A historical San Antonio home designed by Lone Star Brewery's architect is now for saleCharles Haarmann paid just $1,000 for a half-acre lot in what's now the King William Historic District. In 1893, he tapped architect Albert Beckmann to design the five-bedroom house now on the market for $2.3 million. Beckmann, who designed commercial and public buildings along with homes for San Antonio’s elite, was a key member of the design team for the original Lone Star Brewing building, which now houses the San Antonio Museum of Art. More residents of Haarmann's one-time home include longtime San Antonio newspaper columnist Rick Casey and the late Christopher Price, a two-time president of the King William Association. From the numerous covered porches on two floors and ornate stonework touches to the extravagant interior woodwork in every room and the grand staircase, the estate feels like a step back in time. An array of stainless steel appliances in the kitchen offers a rare reminder of the current century. The 4,000-square-foot property also features a pool, outdoor kitchen, a dog run and raised garden beds made of limestone. A large workshop and a 900-square-foot apartment are also included in the sale price. This home is listed by Debra Maltz with Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty.
