The North Side brothel was favored by San Antonio politicians, athletes and lawyers.

And El Pueblo, a West Side leftist newspaper, later printed 19 of the names of Brown’s clients. “The high and mighty of San Antonio, who in the past have constantly accused the Blacks, the Mexicans, the poor and working people of being immoral, corrupt and law breakers,” the story said. She dropped out of high school at 17 and then married against her father’s wishes. When the marriage collapsed, Brown found herself living in Victoria Courts, a West Side public housing project, with her two sons.
Hearst newspaper archives don’t explain how Brown’s brothel became so popular among San Antonio’s elite.However, columns published in the San Antonio Evening News suggested that she was a regular at club and restaurant openings, downtown fashion shows and political rallies. An FBI spokesman told The Light in 1980 that the local raid was part of a multi-city investigation of prostitution circuits that extended beyond Texas. A grand jury issued a subpoena for Brown’s phone records the summer before the raid.
Almost immediately after the raid, several prominent names in San Antonio were whispered to be connected with the North Side brothel. Among them was Bill Jonas, the Republican nominee for sheriff.
