KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Jauteh Dikun has been confirmed as the Sabah Police Commissioner, becoming the first Kadazandusun to helm the post.

He was previously the acting Sabah police chief, having taken over from Datuk Idris Abdullah, the former state police commissioner who retired on March 31.

“I will take the opportunity available through the Federal Government’s special allocation to Sabah, worth half a billion ringgit, to improve the defence capabilities in the Sabah-Indonesia border,” he said. “This is to ensure improvement in quality and performance, efficiency and capability so that the needs of the people will be met,” he said.

He voiced confidence that Comm Jauteh would be able to maintain safety in Sabah and ensure the tourism industry was looked after. In 2012, he was named the Kota Kinabalu OCPD with the rank of assistant commissioner before being appointed as the State Crime Investigation Department head from 2018 to 2021.The Ranau-born Jauteh will be the third Sabahan to lead the state police contingent after Datuk Illiyas Ibrahim and Datuk Omar Mammah.
