At 29-57, the A’s have the worst record in Major League Baseball and are 29 games under .500 for the second time this season.

OAKLAND – After a promising start, A’s pitcher Paul Blackburn got roughed up Friday night in an 8-3 loss to the Houston Astros.

“Honestly nothing changed, I got them the first time through and they got me the second time through,” Blackburn said. “I know they’re really hot right now, they’re a good team. I felt like the pitch to Maldanado was bad, the pitch to Bregman was good … sometimes you just get beat.” He has given up six or more runs in two of his last three starts, but also has just allowed two-run or fewer in 11 of his 16 starts this season, which is why A’s manager Mark Kotsay feels like Blackburn should hear his name called on Sunday when pitchers are selected for the All-Star Game.

Playing in the Mid-Summer Classic on July 19 at Dodger Stadium hasn’t really been running through Blackburn’s mind.
