A little bit about a lot ... If anyone needed a refresher about what a game-changer late Padres owner Peter Seidler became for the Padres and San Diego, meet the raging house fire that is the Oakland A's. They're not simply the lowest payroll in baseball, but rock bottom by more than $21.6 million, according to Spotrac.com. Technically, Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani makes more than the entire A's roster.
An interesting Padres-rooted moment was stitched into Sunday's Yankees-Dodgers game. With Juan Soto sitting because of an injury, Trent Grisham, another former Padre, found himself in the lineup. As the Yankees trailed 3-2 with two on the sixth inning, fans at Yankees Stadium chanted 'We want Soto!' during the important at-bat. It's understandable, given that Grisham is hitting .094 with a woeful .522 OPS.
