Starlings Café in Claremont has to be one of Cape Town's best hidden gems. Despite being tucked behind a hedge and disguised as a suburban home, it's still ridiculously popular. And it's all because of the food. Here are the delicious details:
, writes Cape {town} Etc’s James Redman. You could easily drive by without knowing a thing, but those that have experienced the magic that awaits beyond the leaves will surely agree that this is one of the best cafés in Cape Town.Walkthrough the thoroughfare that’s cut into the hedge and you’ll find yourself on the veranda of an old suburban house that’s been transformed into a bustling café.
I simply can’t get enough of the chicken liver breakfast with poached eggs and sourdough. It’s everything I want in a breakfast; rich, creamy, spicy, delicious. The all-day breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs and chorizo is pretty fantastic too!The curried mince on toast is served with a tomato-ginger-chutney sauce that should be bottled and sold. It’s that good. Salmon scramble, bacon and banana pancakes and decadent french toast are also crowd favourites.
Lunch is equally as delicious. The aubergine melanzane is an absolute delight. There are lots of vegan and vegetarian options, too.Starlings are renowned for its cheesecake, served with fresh cream and berry compote. For a place so well hidden, it’s always packed. But, whether you’re sitting in the serenity of the garden or in the mix of the kitchen bustle at a shared table, Starlings is always a delicious experience.Starlings are located at 94 Belvedere Rd, Claremont, Cape Town.
Starlings have also branched out, serving deliciousness at Starlings Locale, located at 4 Mark Rd, Claremont, Cape Town.
