Doug Lesmerises has an idea for Ohio State to honor Dwayne Haskins and other players who didn't quite meet the criteria to get a tree in the Buckeye Grove.
legends live on in Buckeye Grove. The planting of a tree to honor every first-team All-American in Ohio State history literally brings life to the past. Buckeyes who have passed on, from Chic Harley to Bill Willis, from Jack Tatum to Korey Stringer, from Terry Glenn to Will Smith, are honored not only with a plaque, but with a living, growing tree. It’s an eternal remembrance, one of the great traditions in college football.
Haskins died a year ago, on April 9, 2022, at the age of 24, struck by a truck on a highway in Florida. For what he was at Ohio State, a quarterback that OSU head coach Ryan Day called “revolutionary,” the Buckeyes should create something where the legend of Haskins can grow. The open grassy area to the the right of Buckeye Grove which could be a potential home for Haskins Hill.
