One Piece was a big success for Netflix with a whole lot of viewing hours and a whole lot of fan support for its first season. It was renewed for season 2 not long after it premiered, and with essentially infinite source material to draw from, fans are wondering how long this live action version may run. Well, there’s some good news on that front."We'll see if they flash back to it because they're filming two seasons – season two and three – back to back starting soon.
This would be significant news because Netflix has not confirmed at all that the series has been double-renewed for a third season, which is what happened with the Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation.What we know for sure is that One Piece season 2 is filming this summer, and then if the reports are right, season 3 may be filming then as well, or into the fall.
I think Netflix knows they have a winner in One Piece, not just in terms of viewership but in terms of fan support, which ishard given how skeptical fans are of live-action anime adaptations. Plus there’s the fact that they can print seasons forever given the length of the source material.
