Marco Panconesi created a necklace that no one else will be wearing
Photo: The Posternaks Before starting his own brand in 2018, Marco Panconesi introduced dynamism into the accessory lines of Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Fenty. Though much of his creative juices flow while in his native Italy, the Alchemy necklace was designed during a stay in the Moroccan desert.
The necklace curls up and around in tendrils like the split stem of a calla lily. The sterling-silver necklace is dotted with an array of semiprecious gemstones — tigereye, malachite, quartz in two tones, abalone, jasper — all balanced on a set of springy settings. The settings themselves spiral out of the necklace’s frame, mimicking the en tremblant jewelry of 18th-century France, which was engineered to bounce and tremble with each step of its wearer.
But to say Panconesi’s pieces are just jewelry is an understatement — every creation is its own work of art, with a sense of wonder and surprise. Panconesi brings a high level of artistry to his jewelry line, excavating materials and inspiration with the focus of an archaeologist. The necklace displays exquisite craftsmanship known to Italian jewelers for $4,115.
