Someone at a German paint shop posted photos of a mystery car and accidentally unveiled Brabus's most ambitious project
Leaked images reveal Brabus ’ secretive Bodo 77 coupe. The model appears based on the Mercedes -AMG SL 63. Performance is expected to rival Brabus ’ most extreme builds. Brabus is in the midst of developing one of its most exotic projects to date, a car rumored to carry the name Bodo 77.
Up until recently, it had only been teased with a handful of darkened images, offering very little indication of what to expect. Late last week, a Redditor who says they work at a German paint shop often tasked by Brabus to paint their newest models, snapped a few photos of the mystery two-door and posted them on the WhatIsThisCar page, asking for help to identify it. That changed thanks to an unexpected leak. A poster claiming to work at a German paint shop, one that frequently handles Brabus projects, shared several photos of an unfamiliar two-door model. The images appeared on the WhatIsThisCar subreddit, with the user simply asking if anyone could identify the vehicle he was working on. Unbeknownst to them, it was the Bodo 77, a car that Brabus clearly wasn’t yet ready to show to the world. The original post was quickly deleted, and the user even deleted his account, but the internet never forgets, and the original photos were quickly republished elsewhere. As far as Brabus creations go, this is certainly one of the most intriguing. Que es? by u/EmbarrassedTwice in whatisthiscar Viewed from the front, it appears that the Bodo 77 is based on the current Mercedes-AMG SL 63, but significant alterations have been made. The shape of the headlights is familiar, but everything else about looks unique, including the hood and the quarter panels. For as special as the front looks, the rear half is even more dramatic. A Mercedes With A Difference The new Brabus shares almost nothing in common with the SL 63, adopting a longtail design with a stretched rear window, decklid, and quarter panels. There’s also a custom carbon fiber decklid and a unique rear fascia bathed in carbon. Other striking elements include the intricate LED taillights and the quad-stacked exhaust. This wouldn’t be the first time Brabus has used the current SL as the basis for one of its projects. In late 2024, it unveiled the Rocket GTS, a Shooting Brake/Clown Shoe version of the SL with an upgraded 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 1,000 hp and 1,195 lb-ft of torque. We suspect the Bodo 77 could get similarly outrageous numbers.
