Pilots cut power to the MCAS system as Boeing recommended, but then turned it back on and tried other ways to control the plane, sources told the WSJ.
Investigators examine wreckage at the scene where the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed in Ethiopia in March 2019.Pilots on the Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max plane which crashed in March followed Boeing's emergency procedures, but still couldn't control the plane and prevent the disaster, preliminary findings from an investigation have reportedly found.
How the 737 Max was approved for flying has come under increased scrutiny from lawmakers since the crashes. Boeing is working on a fix that the FAA said it will not implement until it was satisfied. A potential failure of the automated system, called the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System , has been the most widely discussed theory for the Ethiopian Airlines crash, and also the Lion Air Boeing 737 Max 8 crash that killed 189 people in October.
