Art Intelligence Global is inaugurating its Hong Kong exhibition space with a showcase of five Ab-Ex artists.
Titled “Shatter: Color Field and the Women of Abstract Expressionism,” the exhibition includes 25 works by five artists—Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Lynne Drexler, Alma Thomas, and Yvonne Thomas—whose pioneering explorations of color were often overlooked by the male-dominated art establishment. Prices range from $15,000 to $2.5 million.
“Abstraction is the most important thing that has happened in art history since the Renaissance,” said Saara Pritchard, who. “Women were at the forefront of this, Krasner and her all-over abstractions and Frankenthaler and her soak stain technique. They are vastly under-acknowledged for their contributions and in the worst cases, completely overlooked.”
Terase, who made her name as Sotheby’s market-maker in Asia, advised on positioning the show to appeal to Asian collectors. Terase suggested focusing on five artists and bringing a mix of established and unknown names. While Krasner and Frankenthaler are blue-chip and Drexler’s paintings have been chased by Asian collectors this year, Alma Thomas and Yvonne Thomas don’t have much of a name recognition in the region, Pritchard said.. © 2022 Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, Inc. / Artists Rights Society , New York. DeSoto unveils first public art mural - KRLD NewsThe City of DeSoto now has its first permanent piece of public art. The city commissioned an artist to paint a 30-foot high mural on the side of the DeSoto Civic Center. Local artist J-D Moore got the job. His painting shows people from all walks of life on a green background. He used a realistic style to make the figures relatable to people visiting the library, rec center and municipal courthouse. DeSoto Arts Commission Chair James Adams says they wanted to place the mural in a prominent position in town. He says it’s a sign of the city’s growth - and a recognition of the changing economy.
