A proposal for redeveloping Kings Beach in North Lake Tahoe includes a hotel, shopping, huge townhouses and dedicated workforce housing.
The project includes plans for a 153-room hotel with commercial space on the first floor, 36 new townhouses and 74 income-restricted rental units designated for local workers. The hotel, houses and shopping area would be on the Eastern Gateway Property between Fox and Raccoon streets in Kings Beach, while the workforce housing is planned for the intersection of Chipmunk Street and North Lake Boulevard .
While the land earmarked for townhouses and workforce housing is empty, the hotel and commercial projects would be built on lots currently occupied by several businesses. Many of the businesses have already relocated or closed, and the developers say they’ll assist in relocating commercial tenants, while Placer County will work with residents.
Fortunately for visitors, the land occupied by Kings Beach Miniature Golf, first opened in 1957, is not part of the proposed project. It will continue to operate on the corner of North Lake Boulevard and Fox Street, even if development goes on around it, a source close to the project confirmed to SFGATE.
Though it sits on the proposed development site, Kings Beach Miniature Golf, opened in 1957, is not part of the land planned for development.Las Vegas-based Kingsbarn Realty Capital, an equity firm “focused on providing structured real estate investments to high-net-worth individuals,” is spearheading the project.
As of early April, the redevelopment plan is in the very early stages — essentially, it’s just an idea, and nothing has been purchased or approved. The 39 North website notes that the renderings released in late March are “undergoing refinement” and being reworked “so the project fits with the unique beach & mountain aesthetic of Kings Beach.”
