Oliver has been through numerous intensive treatments at his young age
Oliver, now aged two and half, was born prematurely at Ormskirk Hospital and weighed just 990g - less than a bag of sugar. The day after he was born, Oliver had difficulty breathing and after 13 attempts he was finally intubated and put on a ventilator.
The toddler was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia in February 2022. DBA which is a malfunction in the bone marrow and only affects an estimated 125 people in the UK. It impacts Oliver's ability to produce red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. Mum Jess, 32, said this procedure is "traumatic" for Oliver and his parents, with them having to "pin him down" at times to ensure he is cannulated. However, Jess and husband John, 34, said they are "very proud" of their son.
"He loves life, nature, cuddles and really loves being himself. He has a strong personality and even stronger will-power. For everything that he has been through he has shown bravery and courage to be admired."
