Nissan seeks to add outside oversight by nominating independent directors for seven of 11 seats

YOKOHAMA, Japan—Nissan Motor Co. said it would nominate an 11-member board with seven independent directors, seeking to add outside oversight after governance problems that the company blamed on former Chairman Carlos Ghosn.

Two of Nissan’s current independent directors, former bureaucrat Masakazu Toyoda and race-car driver Keiko Ihara, will keep their positions. The new board will be voted on by shareholders at a meeting in late June.
