The California State University governing board announced the appointment on Wednesday, starting the countdown to Teniete-Matson’s last few months as only the second president of the young San Antonio institution. “It is a bittersweet moment as I am extraordinarily proud of all the students, faculty, staff and alumni of A&M-San Antonio,” Teniente-Matson said in a written statement. “Together we have helped to further our trajectory with an eye towards inclusive excellence, academic program growth and support for the future of our community.”

Teniente-Matson has led Texas A&M-San Antonio since 2015, when she succeeded founding president Maria Hernandez Ferrier, who led the institution since its inception in 2009.and offers 37 undergraduate degrees and 19 graduate degrees. The move also marks Teniente-Matson’s return to the California system where she served as vice president for administration and chief financial officer at California State University, Fresno from 2004 to 2015.
