A Lithuanian man scammed Facebook and Google out of more than R1.7 billion by sending them fake bills | BISouthAfrica
Lithuanian hacker, Evaldas Rimasauskas in district court in Vilnius charged after allegedly sending phishing emails to representatives of major tech firms and pretending to work for Asian company.
Prosecutors allege that Rimasauskas and unnamed co-conspirators impersonated a Taiwanese company called Quanta and emailed Google and Facebook fake invoices. A person familiar with the case told Bloomberg that Google had paid $23 million in 2013 and Facebook paid $98 million in 2015 as part of the scheme.
