There is athreat of strong to severe storms during this period, with the main batch of rain and storms arriving early on Monday morning. ⚡ As of 12:30 p.m., multiple severe weather watches are active, including a new tornado watch in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of central Mississippi and central Louisiana. The Storm Prediction Center has included the FOX10 viewing area in a level 2/5 severe weather risk zone. This means that we have a low-end threat for gusty winds, hail, and even an isolated tornado Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Based on the latest forecast model trends, this seems to be a highly conditional, and somewhatThere will be the chance of a few scattered thunderstorms inland on Sunday afternoon and evening, followed by a more robust batch of storms early Monday.There will be some light rain and scattered showers in the morning, but no thunderstorms or severe threat. Temperatures will be mild and humidity will be high. There may be some patchy fog.As parades are rolling in the afternoon, a few scattered showers remain possible. There is no severe weather threat for the early afternoon, but a few thunderstorms may become possible in our far inland areas. Begin to keep an eye on the weather conditions as the afternoon rolls on.Any thunderstorms that develop may have a contain a low-end severe threat in the late afternoon. Pay attention to weather conditions at this time.A few thunderstorms will be possible inland. If any storms do get going, they could produce hail and gusty winds. The severe weather threat at this time will be low, with more thunderstorms possible to our north.A brief lull may be possible around midnight, before a batch of thunderstorms develops and moves into the heart of the FOX10 viewing area around 3 a.m. These storms may become strong, but the severe threat is still generally limited. The SPC maintains a level 2/5 risk at this time.Storms will continue to move across the area from west to east in the early morning hours. Plenty of lightning, and some heavy rain is possible along with the low-end severe threat. Storms will exit the area around 9 a.m., leaving light showers in their wake that may last into the early afternoon. The severe threat will be over once the storms exit the viewing area.Once again, there are some questions regarding if severe storms can develop in the first place, but if they do they will be widely scattered. The threats with the storms that become severe may include gusty winds, hail, and an isolated tornado. There will also be frequent lightning and some heavy downpours with these storms. 🟠 Areas to our north have been upgraded to a level 3/5 risk, while our area remains at a level 2/5 risk. A few thunderstorms may occur this afternoon. However, the greatest chance for rain and storms is early Monday. Since there are a lot of events going on with Joe Cain Day and the Super Bowl, it is important to stay updated, especially on Sunday night. Have the FOX10 Weather App downloaded with the alerts turned on. You will be able to check the radar on the app to see if rain is in your area. Scattered showers will be possible during parades on Sunday, but the main thunderstorm and severe threat does not come into the picture till later on Sunday afternoon. If you are going to the evening parades, get a quick check of the forecast before you go. For the overnight hours and into Monday morning, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts in case any are issued. Once again, we have declared a STORMtracker Weather Alert Day valid from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning for a low-end severe weather threat during this time period.The rain will completely clear from the area between 2-4 p.m. on Monday, leading to a partly cloudy sky. Afternoon parades might encounter a few showers, but the evening parades should be fine. Temperatures will gradually fall through the evening as a cold front brings in cooler air for Fat Tuesday. Light jackets may be necessary.Fat Tuesday will start off chilly with early morning temperatures in the low 40s, so jackets will be needed for early parades. In the afternoon, temperatures will reach near 60 degrees with a mainly sunny sky. It will be a beautiful day for all the Mardi Gras festivities!
