A reminder that creative spaces don’t have to be big.

I recently moved our kids to the bigger bedroom in our two-bedroom apartment. We have three kids, and our toddler has transitioned to a big-kid bed. So we’re working around three beds, a dresser, toy cabinets, a bookshelf and a sensory table.

A lot of play happens in their room, and they're also different ages. I’m in a very creative space with their room again, which I love. I want to be intentional with creating spaces that they can all share in different ways. For example, the kids are all into art right now, so I went with this simple drawing area. I’ve seen it all over Pinterest and social media, and it’s probably one of the most affordable ways to create an art space for your kiddo. For this project, I’m using a discontinued bookshelf from IKEA—we’ve owned a few for years now and I just keep reusing them. I love that IKEA products can be used for years and that you can add color or find new ways to set them up around your home.Decorating kids’ spaces is so fun because it’s always changing. They really set the tone for what they want in their space. If you live in an apartment just like me, you’ll find that space is very limited. At one point, I had three different kid tables in my apartment… and I quickly realized that our lack of space is keeping the kids from playing more and using their imagination.
