The NSW teachers union is encouraging teachers to walk out of classrooms during visits by the premier, deputy premier, education minister or treasurer, as negotiations break down.

abc.net.au/news/nsw-teachers-wage-negotiations-stall-after-government-offer/102683528The New South Wales government has been accused of committing an "act of betrayal" by abandoning a deal that would have seen the state's teachers become the best paid in the country.

"It would have made teacher salaries in NSW competitive, such that those salaries of beginning teachers and top-of-the-scale teachers would have been the highest in the country," Mr Gavrielatos said on Thursday. "We have reached many agreements with the Teachers Federation … but there are some things we haven't yet reached agreement on," she said.

"For 10 years the NSW government has deliberately and consciously allowed teacher salaries to fall behind other professions … salaries should reflect the value and importance of the work teachers do," then Opposition Leader Chris Minns said in a speech to union members.
