Zero Native faculty can be found at Harvard’s schools of Law, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, Design, Divinity, Education, Government, Public Health, and Dentistry.
In addition to not having any Native tenured faculty, Harvard Law also has no specialized federal Indian law clinics or journals; this year’s singular federal Indian law class was not even announced , months after the course catalog came out. This is not a harmless erasure from the curriculum — Harvard Law School is a leading institution in the country, a place that graduates future judges and justices.
Harvard-trained lawyers will inevitably handle cases regarding federal Indian laws and policies such as NAGPRA and the, a law designed to remedy the nation’s history of stealing Native children from their tribal communities and assimilating them through the same Indian boarding schools where the Peabody's collection of hair is from, or more recently through state welfare systems.
