When firefighters entered the home, they found readings inside of 1,000 ppm — the maximum reading on the meter.
"It was unsafe for any person to enter that structure," he said.
Winter months tend to be the time officials most often find cases of potential carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty heating systems, but officials said the chemical can originate from multiple appliances. "We cannot stress enough to have at least one carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home," Ponzi said.
