Coronavirus death toll jumps to 3,000 worldwide, including second US fatality
Two states announced their first cases of coronavirus on Sunday.
The person was being treated in a hospital and"all infection control protocols" were being followed, the statement said. "There is no cause for surprise — this was expected," Cuomo said in a statement."As I said from the beginning, it was a matter of when, not if there would be a positive case of novel coronavirus in New York."
Italian authorities announced that the number of people infected doubled to 1,694 in just 24 hours, and five deaths brought the toll there to 34. Australia and Thailand reported their first deaths, the Associated Press said. The global death toll stood at 3,038 on Sunday night, including more than 2,800 in mainland China. More than 88,500 infections have been reported worldwide, the vast majority of them in China.
