Campaigners have issued a warning about the number of acid attacks in the city-region over the last 12 months
A huge rise in acid attacks recorded by Greater Manchester Police has been revealed by a campaigning charity. According to data published today from Acid Survivors Trust International , GMP recorded six incidents in 2021, with the figure for 2022 more than doubling to 19.

Drug dealer Michael Hillier shot Mr Smith yards from his home before dousing his body in sulphuric acid.
Acid Survivors Trust International is now launching Project Irreversible, described as a prevention initiative to educate youngsters on the risks and consequences of acid violence, on both a victim and a perpetrator. A graphic, cartoon-style novel and a social media video have been produced, to run alongside workshops. The novel tells three stories centred around acid attacks.
"To gain insights into the scale of acid attacks across the UK, ASTI submits FOI requests to all police forces on a yearly basis. Data from Merseyside Police signals a concerning raise in the number of attacks, with a more than six-fold increase from four violent acid attacks in 2021 to 26 in the last year.
