Glentoran’s Bobby Burns is showing that his drive and dedication aren’t restricted to the football pitch: he’s nearing the end of a part-time degree with The Open University and he’s keen to encourage others to follow in his footsteps.
So much so that Burns turned down offers from English league clubs Bristol City and Rochdale at the age of 16 so that he could stay at school and do his A-levels while establishing himself in the Glenavon first team. “The Open University has been great because I've been able to travel and it hasn't really affected or changed anything in my course. It gives you that flexibility.”
“I've really enjoyed it and made some virtual friends, although I've never met them. It's been a terrific experience for me.”
