A decade in, BeccaMcCharen is still making waves with each new season of CHROMAT_PARTY. And the innovative brand just announced a brand-new business model making its swimwear more accessible to shoppers. 👀👙
almost a decade ago, the 35-year-old designer has been doing things her way—casting the people she wants, collaborating with the companies she wants, and building a brand on the values she believes in.
It's kind of two pronged, the reason why we did that. Swimwear's an important space for us to challenge the norms of society’s idea of what a “bikini body” is. The swimsuit is such a vulnerable garment. It has the power to change how people feel about themselves. I felt that our ethos about celebrating all different bodies was really needed in swimwear. There was so much that needed to be deconstructed and kind of flipped on its head.
I would say, for sure, the spring 2015 runway show that Denise Bidot opened. We worked with plus-size models when we first started, but that was our first runway show opening with a plus-size model. I felt like that really kicked off a new era in Fashion Week, of having more plus-size models on the runway. Then doing the CFDA/Fashion Fund in 2015, then again in 2017, was a major change in our company. Our collaborations with Intel, speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show—that was crazy.
