A clear top four is emerging in Iowa—and it’s great news for Biden

The latest poll suggests that the current primary-race dynamic—Joe Biden in the lead, a small group of rivals clustered behind him, and then a vast landscape of nobodies in the background—has stabilized. Back in March, before Biden announced, anotherput him at 27%, followed by Sanders at 25% and Warren at 9%. The only major change between then and now has been the ascendance of Buttigieg, who leapfrogged Harris from near-total obscurity.
Biden’s numerical advantage is, in part, a function of his name recognition and perceived electability as the vice president towho remains overwhelmingly popular among Democrats. But it also reflects a distinct electoral strategy that separates Biden from several of his rivals in the second tier.
