White's career in black and white stripes began in 1974

It’s been said the best referees or officials are the ones who go unnoticed during the duration of the game. If that’s true, Jeff White has been invisible to football coaches, players and fans for quite some time.

White, of course, would never bother to celebrate his own career, one that has stretched from area high schools to the Atlantic 10 Conference, from NFL camps to the Ivy League.“Jeff is a mentor to so many officials, including me. He’s dedicated 50 years to this avocation,” said Aaron Jayman, president of the Capital Area Chapter of PIAA Football Officials.

While working for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, White quickly became a trusted leader and voice for area officials. He was assigned Eastern College Athletic Conference games and officiated multiple postseason tournament games in the Division II and III ranks. “Jeff has long set the standard for what it means to be a Mid-Penn official. But, being an official is much more than preparing for and working games. It’s about being part of a special brotherhood, and no one signifies that more than Jeff.”

He makes time to keep hitting the field, staying close to the action by promoting fair competition every step of the way. It’s pure joy for the veteran official, watching his crew work, the sights and sounds of the game.
