Girl, 5, fatally stabbed by her mother, Harris sheriff says
Around 12:10 p.m., the child's mother, 35, arrived at the emergency room at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball and told hospital personnel she had killed her daughter, according to Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ben Beall. Nurses recovered the child's body from her mother's car and pronounced her dead at the hospital. She had one stab wound to the neck, which could be described as"an incision," Beall said.
Tomball Police, who also responded, were told the mother had said she stabbed her daughter at Spring Creek Park, but they were unable to find any evidence of a homicide scene at the park or inside the car the mother drove to the hospital, sheriff's officials said. The 35-year-old was placed under arrest and was in custody Sunday afternoon, being interviewed, Beall said.
The woman had previous interactions with police due to experiencing homelessness, but it was not immediately known whether there had been any history of child abuse or violence reported to state agencies, officials said. "I've been in homicide for 28 years. This is something that we don't run across often," Beall said during a news conference."When we do, we make an extra point to get all of the details, to get all of the information to the D.A.'s office so it can be fully prosecuted."
